Event Description

This year we are honoring pioneer women physicians who practiced medicine on the Western Frontier. A surprising number of women doctors served Western ranching, mining, and railroad towns throughout the West. Many found less prejudice against women than they experienced in the East, but some answered ads despite the stipulation that "no women need apply."

A half dozen or so docents will be on hand at the Laws Museum's Library and Arts Center to share the stories of some of these women, including Inyo Count's very own woman physician Dr. Helen "Nellie" McKnight Doyle.

Come out and meet with history itself. You are not going to want to miss this!
