LAWS MUSEUM 2008 RAFFLE ITEMS

QUILT RAFFLE.  The quilt was constructed using traditional hanPhoto of Log Cabin Quilt being presented to the Laws Board with Engine No. 9 in the backgroundd piecing and hand and machine quilting techniques.  The Log Cabin quilt pattern originated on the Isle of Man, where it was considered the “Manx” pattern, the same way that certain plaids are identified with specific Scottish clans.  The Log Cabin pattern became popular again in the mid 19th century and during the Civil War were often made by groups as raffle quilts to raise money for charities and war efforts. These quilt blocks are laid out in an arrangement known as “Barn Raising”.
